Preserving Your Wedding Cake

Preserving Your Wedding Cake

Loading

It’s an old tradition, and one that isn’t followed too often today; but the story behind why it was done will make you want to celebrate your first anniversary the way your parents or grandparents might have done.

To ensure prosperity and good luck in the coming years, or to welcome a new born baby into the world (often within the first year) people would preserve the top layer of their wedding cake and celebrate their first milestone after the wedding by enjoying a slice of the cake. Of course, it’s important to know how to preserve it to keep it fresh for a year.

On the wedding night, straight after the celebrations have concluded arrange for someone to place the top layer in the cake box and put in the freezer for a few hours. Cling film should then be wrapped carefully around the entire layer to make it airtight, secured in a ziplock bag and put back in the cake box. The cake box should then be wrapped until it’s airtight and put back in the freezer. Easy…

It’s also important to remember that some cakes will preserve better than others. For example, heavy fruit or chocolate cake will freeze better than cakes with cream or fresh fruit, which may spoil over that time.

To enjoy a fresh memory of your wedding day you could contact the bakery that made your wedding cake and ask them to bake a smaller cake in the same way and slice it up for everyone to enjoy and remember.
