A cloche hat is a fitted, bell shaped hat, worn by women that was first made in 1908 by the milliner Caroline Reboux.
The cloche hat is forever, in and out of fashion over the years.

They tend to be practical and also fashionable.
Very popular in 1920’s and including the 1930’s they also were popular in the 1960’s and a part of the 1980’s and again saw a surge in 2007 when the Cloche hat was featured in the popular Elle magazine.
The hat is usually made from felt and decorated with ribbons, feather or buttons.

A very practical hat and can be worn for any occasion with the quick addition of adornments.
The type of decoration wold indicate a different message about the person wearing the hat.
Popular messages included an arrow like ribbon which would indicate a female was single but “spoken for”.
A knot on the hat indicated the wearer was married and an elaborate bow indicated the wearer was completely single and available for friendship.
